Royal New Zealand Plunket Society - Te Puke, Bay of Plenty

Plunket provides an invaluable service to New Zealand families. Many of its community services are provided from smaller community buildings across regional New Zealand towns. These centres provide a vital hub for staff (including Plunket nurses, community co-ordinators and volunteers) to deliver support network for parents and their children.
Plunket’s local staff and volunteers at the Te Puke centre have long desired a fit for purpose building or hub. The Plunket team were recently required to relocate out of their existing, building which posed an unsatisfactory health risk to themselves and their clients.
The local area Board identified an opportunity, with strong staff, volunteer and community support, to secure land on a long-term lease from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council and build a fit for purpose centre for the Te Puke community.
PMG CEO & Director Scott McKenzie volunteered his expertise and time and assembled a team of property professionals to commence the design, pricing, consent, and construction process. Alongside this, the local Plunket team commenced a fund-raising process, raising the close to $450,000 required to complete the project.
The building is projected to be completed in August 2017. Thanks to key volunteers within the property team including: RCP (Project Manager), Wasley Knell Consultants (Planning
& Consents), Cactus Design (Architecture), Arnold and Johnson (Engineering) and Shawn Williamson Building.
Plunket is a cause that’s close to Scott’s heart, with three young daughters himself and an activeinterest in working in his community. Scott has been a part of the local Plunket Board for three years, and has been an integral part of the recent and ongoing project at Te Puke. After these three years, Scott has decided to step down from the Board, to allow for others to add their own value to the Society.
